How We Dilute Thieves Laundry Soap

I use to spend a good amount of time starting at the laundry soap options at the grocery store, reading labels, googling ingredients and their side effects, and still ending up with a product that was not totally toxic free (have you heard of greenwashing?). It was time consuming and a bit frustrating to see how many companies use harmful chemicals in their laundry detergents and sometimes even hiding the full ingredient list under the term “fragrance.”

I was so excited to learn that Young Living had their own laundry soap and we’ve now used Thieves for almost two years and I. Love. It!

One of my favorite things about it is the caution label on the back. It says that if you accidentally ingest Thieves laundry soap drink lots of water. And if you get it in your eyes flush with lots of water. No harmful chemicals to worry about, calling poison control, racing to the emergency room, etc. Safe for kids, babies, pets, people with allergies, asthma, and skin sensitivities... and if you don't fall into one of these categories you should still be aware of what's in the products you are using on your skin and in your home. You may not feel the effects of the toxins today but over time they can accumulate in our bodies and wreak havoc on our hormones, fertility, immune systems, and overall wellness.

Thieves laundry soap is ultra-concentrated and while I've used it both diluted and undiluted my favorite way, by far, is to dilute it by thirds into a separate pump bottle. I purchased my pump bottle on Amazon but this is totally optional. You can simply store the excess soap in a separate container and just use the original laundry soap bottle when diluting. The pump bottle helps me to more accurately measure how much soap I'm using for each load of laundry which I love. Here's a breakdown of how we do it...

HOW TO DILUTE THIEVES LAUNDRY SOAP:

1. Add 1/3 of the soap into a 32oz pump bottle (or store 2/3 of the laundry soap in a separate container for later use).

2. Add 2 capfuls of Thieves household cleaner to the pump bottle for an extra cleaning boost (optional but I love knowing I'm giving my soap a little boost when diluting it).

3. Add ~30 drops of an essential oil(s) of your choice. My favorites are Purification and Lavender (~15 drops each) but other great oils would be Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, and Citrus Fresh...

4. Top with water and gently shake to mix well.

5. Add 4-5 pumps of the diluted laundry soap to each load of laundry.

**Watch the video below that Paloma and I made for IG Live to see us diluting this for ourselves. :)

We add this laundry soap to our Young Living order every three months or so. And the best part is that because we order from YL every month we receive a 20% credit back (soon to be 25%!) onto our account on everything we purchase. We can then use the credit for future purchases - it's a win-win and I 100% recommend the Loyalty Rewards program in order to save and purchase non toxic products regularly while on a budget.
