What are essential oils?

Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts that are harvested from both farm-grown and wildcrafted plants through steam distillation, cold pressing, or resin tapping. Through this process, essential oils actually become far more powerful and potent than the botanicals from which they were extracted.

Each essential oil contains its own unique, naturally occurring constituents which make up that oils’ specific aroma profile and all of its various benefits and uses. They are one of nature’s beautiful gifts that we can use to support our overall wellness and we can benefit from incorporating into so many of our daily routines!

How can you use essential oils?

01. Aromatically

* When you breathe in the aroma of an essential oil, those molecules enter your nose and trigger your olfactory system which is connected to all parts of your limbic system. Your limbic system plays a role in controlling your emotions, behaviors, sense of smell and long term memory. Using a diffuser is a great way to get all the benefits of using essential oils aromatically!

02. Topically

* When you apply oils topically to your skin the constituents begin interacting with your cells and circulating in your bloodstream within in a matter of only a few minutes. Because your body is able to absorb and process these natural substances so quickly, oils need to be applied several times throughout the day to experience the full benefits. Use a carrier oil to help your body absorb them more efficiently.

03. Internally

* Using oils internally is not necessary to experience their benefits but can be a powerful tool when trying to target a specific area of concern. Use a vegetable capsule and a carrier oil if you prefer to ingest the oil without having to taste it. Placing a drop of oil under your tongue or a few drops in a glass of water is perfectly fine, too. Just be sure to verify that the oil is safe and intended for ingestion.

*Note that these uses are strictly recommended for 100% pure, therapeutic grade essential oils only. Using lesser quality oils can be harmful.
